My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

This session was chilly, but so much warmer than it could have otherwise been in January up at Tibblefork Reservoir in Utah. I did this photo shoot for Kristen Morley, of https://www.lightenmylifenaturally.com  She has built quite a following on TikTok, helping others with energy healing. You can also find her on Instagram here: @kirsten.morley.

Her kids were freezing so I used a few of my tried-and-true family photography tricks to keep them interested,

  1. I invited the oldest boy to go on a treasure hunt and gave him lots of choices. For example “Do you want to stand here, or by the tree stump?” “Do you want to take more pictures in this spot or walk over there?” Choices help kids feel in control and engaged in taking pictures since the spot was their idea, or so they think.
  2. I played catch with the baby. He was the coldest and the most unhappy, playing catch got me a few frames I KNOW I couldn’t have gotten otherwise. I knew he was into balls from my consult form the mom filled out ahead of time. Want to read more about how filling out that form helps me? Check out this post- https://lexiraephotography.com/how-and-why-you-should-fill-out-your-consult-form
  3. Sometimes I have my clients shout things since it always produces great smiles. I knew the girl was into unicorns I had the family shout “UNICORNS” which is how I got all five of them looking and smiling naturally.

Hope you enjoyed the tips, now scroll on to see the results…
