One thing to consider when selecting a photo shoot location is what makes your family unique, or what spot tells part of your family story? My family is really big into skiing, so I’ve been dreaming of hiring someone to take photos of us on the slopes or at least incorporating skiing into our shoot somehow. My sister-in-law is an excellent cook and bakes a LOT. She has a commercial snow cone maker, a cotton-candy machine, and a cinnamon roll business. If you’ve thought of it, she’s probably tried to bake it. She was thinking this year we could go to Lagoon or a county fair and get images of her family eating junk food and having fun together. I’m so excited for that shoot! Hopefully this has gotten you thinking about your own family and a spot that could be a part of your story.
The shoot I did below was for a family that had recently moved to Utah from out of state. They purchased a gorgeous lot to build their new home and thought it would a great place to do their session, to document this new chapter of their lives and their new place they are going to call home. I thought it was an awesome idea, and was happy to capture their little ones digging in the dirt where they would soon be planting trees and creating their own little piece of paradise. Life can be crazy with six little kids and a dog, and these parents had just the right attitude for their shoot. We kept it lifestyle and casual, and captured all the snuggles, smiles, and kids running free in their new space. My favorite image of the family all together could actually be considered a blooper, but I love it so much. To me that picture is frame-worthy and will make them laugh out loud in a few years if it doesn’t already. See if you can pick it out.
