My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

5 Must-Have Shots for Senior Photos

Seniors

June 10, 2025

back to blog

Your senior session is your time to shine. We’re celebrating who you are right now—your style, your story, your confidence. You’ve booked your senior session (yay!), now you might be wondering what kind of photos we’ll take. Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! I’ll guide you every step of the way, but here are 5 must-have shots for senior photos that we always get to make your gallery feel full, fun, and so you.

Not sure how to prepare for your session? Get my free guide HERE.

1. Sitting

These are always a favorite. Sitting poses help you relax and feel natural.
We’ll find the perfect spot—maybe in the grass, on a blanket, or on a cute bench—and capture some calm, cozy vibes. Bonus: perfect for showing off your shoes!

2. Standing

Simple, classic, and confident.
Whether you’re leaning against a wall, walking toward the camera, or just standing tall and smiling—we’ll grab a few standing shots that really show off your outfit and personality.

3. Squatting or Kneeling

This one adds some cool, casual energy.
Squatting or kneeling brings a different angle that adds variety to your gallery. It’s fun, stylish, and honestly… kind of underrated.

4. Full Body

You spent time picking the perfect outfit—let’s show it off!
Full body shots let you shine from head to toe. These work great in sitting, standing, or walking poses. Think confident, bold, and totally YOU.

5. Close Up

These are the heart of your session.
We’ll get a few up-close shots that capture your eyes, your smile, your laugh—the stuff that makes you you. Whether you’re serious or giggling, these always end up being favorites.

Each session is different, because every senior is unique. But with these five must-have shots, we’ll create a gallery that feels fun, natural, and totally true to you.
