My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

Why Extended Family Photos Are Worth It

Extended Family

There’s something so special about gathering generations together in front of the camera. As a Utah family photographer, one of my favorite sessions to photograph is extended families. Parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins—all together in one place. These photos become heirlooms, passed down for years, telling the story of where your family began and how it continues to grow. When you take the time to schedule extended family photos, you’re not just booking a session—you’re preserving your legacy. These are the images that will hang in your home, be pulled out at family reunions, and bring back memories of laughter, love, and togetherness. Extended family photos are worth it!

What to Expect During an Extended Family Session

Extended family sessions can feel overwhelming at first—lots of people, many personalities, and sometimes kids running in every direction. But here’s the secret: you don’t need to stress. My job as your Utah County family photographer is to help you feel comfortable and to guide you through natural posing that brings out connection and joy.

We’ll capture a mix of everyone together, smaller family groupings, and those sweet candid moments in between. The result? A gallery that beautifully tells the story of your family as a whole.

Posing Tip: Sisters Up Front

One of my favorite posing tricks for extended families is to bring two sisters (or cousins who are close) up to the front of the group. Have them cuddle in close together—it instantly balances the photo and adds such a sweet, natural touch. This little detail creates warmth in a big group photo and draws your eye right to those authentic connections.

Why Extended Family Photos Matter

  • Celebrate milestones – Whether it’s an anniversary, holiday, or reunion, photos make the celebration last.

  • Capture generations together – It’s rare to have everyone in one place; don’t let that moment slip by.

  • Create a family heirloom – These images will be cherished by children, grandchildren, and beyond.

At the end of the day, extended family sessions aren’t about picture-perfect smiles—they’re about telling the story of your family, as it is, right now. The laughter, the hugs, the way the kids cling to grandparents—those are the memories worth keeping.

If you’re looking for a Utah family photographer or a Utah County family photographer to capture your extended family, I’d love to help you freeze these moments in time.
