My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

Embracing the Magic: Enjoying Your Family During a Winter Photography Session

As a Utah family photographer, one of the most common questions I get before a session is: “What if the weather isn’t perfect?” Let me tell you something magical—those overcast skies and snowy Utah days you might worry about? They create the dreamiest backdrop for your photos. Instead of stressing, lean into it! Snow transforms your session into a cozy winter wonderland, and the soft light from an overcast sky flatters everyone beautifully. When you look back at your images, you won’t remember that your toes were a little chilly—you’ll remember the giggles, the hugs, and the joy of being together as a family. So, embrace the magic and enjoy your family during your next winter photography session.

Don’t Stress—Soak It In

Your family session isn’t about stiff smiles or trying to look “perfect.” It’s about connection. As your Utah County family photographer, I love capturing those in-between moments—the way your kids laugh when you whisper something silly, or how your little one looks up at you when you hold them close.

So instead of worrying about whether your hair is just right or if the snow will ruin the session, let go of the stress. Breathe in the crisp winter air. Play with your kids. Snuggle into your spouse. These are the real, authentic moments you’ll treasure.

Posing Tip:

One of my favorite prompts for families with multiple kids is to have big brother wrap his arms around his siblings and give them a little playful shake. Trust me—instant giggles! This playful pose always brings out authentic smiles, and it’s one of those moments that shows off sibling love in the most candid way. Plus, it gives your kids permission to just be themselves instead of standing stiffly in front of the camera.

At the end of the day, your family photography session is about you being together. Whether we’re trudging through snowy Utah mountains, or laughing as little ones throw snowballs, I’ll be there to capture it all—the real smiles, the snuggles, and the love that makes your family unique.

So, if you’re looking for a Utah family photographer or a Utah County family photographer who will help you embrace the moment (snow, giggles, and all), I’d love to help tell your story.
