My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

One-Year-Old Photo Shoot, Lexi Rae Photography

Calling all Mom’s with Babies! This post is for you. It’s bit a hot minute since I’ve had the privilege of doing a one year old photo shoot, so I was REALLY excited for this one. Especially after Mom texted me all the outfits she was contemplating bringing. I urged her to narrow it down to three so we didn’t waste too much time changing. It was just enough to give it variety, but not so much changing that her one-year-old got fussy. Here’s a few of things I loved about this shoot that I would urge others to do as they contemplate a shoot to document their baby’s first year of life:

  1. She brought some favorite items from home, i.e. a stuffed animal that had sentimental meaning, and an outfit also worn by siblings at the same age, just to name a couple
  2. She brought three outfits, enough for variety but not too many changes that would waste a lot of shooting time
  3. She brought a cake and balloons, which was gorgeous and only $30 by the way! She had it custom done from the Maceys grocery store bakery. Who knew they would do such an amazing job?!
  4. She was willing to get in some of the frames and even wore a matching mommy and me outfit. Now maybe you are scratching your head wondering what I’m talking about because I’m always telling families to NOT match. But I will say there are a couple of exceptions, one being Mommy and Me shots, and the other being PJ shots during Christmas time, which you’re probably familiar with. I love their blush matching dresses! Your baby will love seeing the two of you together when they are older. I’ve never been sorry that I’ve been in a photo with my family, I AM however sometimes sad about how many pictures I’m NOT in when I put together my family book. It’s hard to be in the frame as moms because a lot of the time we are the ones taking pictures all the time, so finding an opportunity like this to jump in the frame can be really special

Check out the below photos to get some inspiration for your babies shoot when they hit a milestone. And shoot me an email, if you have any questions or want to get on my calendar. I’d love to do more shoots like this.
