Park City is one of the most beautiful places for a fall family photography session. The background of mountains and colors are timeless. My clients chose to take their family photos together with their friends. It was a great way to give the kids breaks during the session when I worked with each family individually. The classic color palette fit in with their surroundings so well!
My clients understood the assignment when they chose their outfits for the photos. Choosing outfits for family photos or extended family photos doesn’t have to be stressful. Here are a few things to consider:
Color Palette:
Choose a color palette that complements each other. You don’t need everyone to match perfectly, but having a cohesive color scheme creates a classic look. Consider earth tones, pastels, or a combination of muted and bold colors.
Avoid Matching Exactly:
While it’s good to have some common color themes, avoid dressing everyone in the exact same outfit. Instead, choose variations in shades and patterns within the chosen color palette.
Consider the Setting:
Think about the location where the photos will be taken. If it’s a beach setting, lighter or pastel colors might work well. For this session in Park City, my clients went for classic and neutral tones. They really complemented the mountains and fall colors.
Avoid Logos and Busy Patterns:
Logos and busy patterns can be distracting in photos. Choose a simple and timeless styles that won’t date the photos.
Patterns, Textures and Layers:
Mix in patterns, textures and layers to add visual interest. I loved how my clients had a mix of textures and layers in their outfits. In colder months, layers and coordinating jackets can look great and keep you warm.
Remember, the goal is to capture the essence of your family while creating visually appealing photos. Have fun with the process, and don’t be afraid to let each family member’s personality shine through in their clothing choices.
