My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

Preparing for your Senior Photography Session

Senior pictures create the perfect opportunity to capture and commemorate this time in your life and should be styled to represent you and your personality. Preparing for your senior photography session will help you images you’ll be excited to hang on your wall for years to come.

Need some outfit inspiration? HERE are some of my favorites.

Senior photography sessions are such a milestone moment. Here are some tips to help you prepare and make the most out of your session:

Choose the right photographer:

Look for a photographer whose style aligns with what you want. Make sure you like their editing and the way they shoot (ie portraits vs candids, or a mix of both which is what I do)

Plan your outfits:

  • Choose an outfit that represents your personal style – if you love casual style, and jeans make up the majority of your wardrobe, don’t force yourself into a flowy dress that might not feel like you. Instead, throw on a new pair of jeans you love and style them with a dressier top.
  • Be ComfortableIf there are pieces in your closet that make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable, don’t include them in your senior portrait wardrobe! Additionally, you will most likely be sitting on the ground, laying down, walking and doing other things that could be difficult if your clothing is uncomfortable!
  • Mix it upWhen planning your outfits, I recommend having two looks. One more causal, and then one more dressy (whatever that looks like for you). That way you get a variety of looks without spending too much time changing.  If you want a third look, I recommend adding a layer to what you’re already wearing so you don’t have to fully change.

Props and accessories:

Think about incorporating props or accessories that are meaningful to you. This could be sports equipment, musical instruments, books, or anything else that represents your passions.

Communicate with your photographer:

Don’t hesitate to communicate your preferences and ideas with your photographer. They want to create images that you’ll love, so be vocal about what you want.

Stay relaxed & have fun:

It’s normal to feel a bit nervous before your session, but try to relax and have fun! Having someone you’re comfortable with can help you relax and feel more at ease during the session. Trust your photographer to capture your best angles and expressions.

Senior photos are a celebration of your achievements and a chance to capture memories that you’ll cherish for years to come. Enjoy the experience and let your personality shine through in your photos!
