When I first got into photography, I avoided harsh light pretty much all the time. It’s a safe way to learn, but I decided I think I know enough to start breaking the rules. So I just recently decided to get outside my comfort zone and start experimenting with harsh-light. I haven’t loved all of my experimenting-images, but when I saw this little one having a dance party in the living room at just the right time of day for some shadow play, the stars aligned. The first image was just recently featured on 4 photography blogs: “In Beauty and Chaos”, “The MonoChromatic Lens”, “Click{Style}” and “Giggles and Goldfish”. It was also featured on two Photography Instagram Pages, @LightInspired and @Rocktheshot. I’ve only had one image featured before. So what did I learn? The experience not only enabled me to create an image that I love, but it’s taught me how it important it is to get outside my comfort zone and stop worrying about rules. When I try new things, I grow and progress as a photographer. That’s my goal, so here’s to breaking some more rules.
Awesome use of the shadows!! Yay to breaking out of your comfort zone!!
