Read on for an stress-free way to have everyone look amazing in your family pictures. I’m an extended family photographer in Utah, figuring out what to wear for your Extended Family Photos doesn’t have to be so stressful.
The best thing to do is to find a color palette and family photo you can send to everyone (like the one below). Then have everyone pick something to wear within that color palette and give them these few pointers:
- Don’t wear the same color on top as someone else in your immediate family (it will make it hard for your photographer to balance the photo).
- Don’t choose something with words or logos on it (that will be distracting).
- Don’t choose the same neutral for everyone to to wear (i.e. don’t put everyone in jeans, or everyone in khaki, or everyone in gray, your picture will be more interesting if you add in a bunch of different neutrals).
- It’s okay if some family members are in dresses, some in skirts, and some in pants. The more you add variety, the better.
