My photography business grew from a desire to learn how to take professional portraits of my kids, while also capturing the cute and sweet moments of their childhood. Their portraits and candid images are such a treasure to me now which is why my photography style has evolved into what it is today - family portraits with candid moments mixed in to capture personalities and family relationships

Tips for Senior Photos

Capturing your senior photos is a special moment that reflects who you are as you step into a new chapter of life. As a Utah County Photographer specializing in senior photography, I’ve gathered some simple tips to help you feel confident and look your best during your session.

Check out my post on preparing for your upcoming senior session. HERE

Relax Your Hands

It’s common to feel unsure about what to do with your hands during a photoshoot. Tension can make your hands appear stiff, which might affect the overall feel of your photos. To keep them looking natural, gently rest them on your hips, run your fingers through your hair, or lightly touch your face or shoulder. The key is to keep your fingers soft and relaxed.

If it Bends, Bend It

Poses look more natural and engaging when there’s a slight bend in areas like elbows, knees, or wrists. This simple technique adds movement and life to your photos, making them feel less posed and more authentic. Keep your joints relaxed. Don’t lock your knees or elbows and keep those shoulders down.

Show Confidence

Your senior photos should capture your unique personality and confidence. Stand tall, relax your shoulders, and let your genuine smile shine. Remember, these photos are about celebrating you, so embrace the moment and let your true self come through.

 Choose Comfortable Clothing

Wearing outfits that make you feel comfortable and true to yourself can significantly boost your confidence during the shoot. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it naturally reflects in your posture and expressions.

 Incorporate Movement

Adding subtle movements, like walking slowly or twirling, can bring a dynamic and natural feel to your photos. These actions help capture genuine expressions and make the session more enjoyable.

Trust Your Photographer

Trust your photographer to help you look your best. With years of experience they will know exactly how to have you pose. If you don’t feel funny, you aren’t doing it right.

By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll be well on your way to a successful and enjoyable senior photo session. Whether you’re in Utah County or Park City, capturing your authentic self is the ultimate goal.
