Posing and What-To-wear-tips, and a peek at some of my latest work
Do you spend a lot of time in your back yard as a family? Doing a back yard photo session is a good idea for these reasons: It’s important to document places that are meaningful to your family. A session done at a place you spend a lot of time as a family will bring […]
Check out this shoot I did with Mysha of @remingtonavenue. I’ll point out a few things Mysha did to make her shoot stand out and some suggestions to help yours turn out great: She ordered several amazing dresses, and picked her favorite. It’s hard to find clothes that fit right normally, so cut yourself a […]
Want some family pictures so you can smile and remember how much your family loves each other while you walk around your house everyday? Me too. Here’s the Lexi Rae 2020 Fall Schedule followed by what a family session will likely look like. If you want your session to lean more heavily on candids, look […]
Calling all business owners. Do you have a really cool product, and are pulled in a million directions running your business? Tired of last minute posts and average photography that doesn’t do your product justice? Creating content for your business can be exhausting, I know because I’ve been there. I can help, for a few […]
Look at how cool this spot is. People drive by it all the time and don’t realize what a great spot it is for senior pictures in Utah. There’s so much variety: wide open views, dense forest (for Utah at least), a bridge, flowering shrubs, tall trees, fields and lots of gorgeous backlight. I love […]
This is what I do. These casual un-poses are my favorite. After I get a more “placed” look, I tell everyone to squish or cuddle for a waist up shot. This look isn’t for everyone, but if casual with everyone still looking and smiling appeals to you, then we are a GOOD fit. It can […]
Most of the time when I’m on a beach vacation, I leave my DSLR at the hotel during the day. I don’t want to worry about it in the heat and around the sand and water all day, not to mention I’d rather be in the water or hanging out with my family. I still […]
Whether you’re working around a family wedding schedule, or a child with special needs, or a tight timeline, I’ve got a solution for you. My goal is to come up with a plan to make family portraits possible for you, whether you live in Utah or are just in town for a few days. Sometimes […]
Photograph the things that are important to you. Is there are specific place that means something to you? Is it your family relationships and interaction (of course), is it your old horse that won’t be around much longer? The more meaningful stuff you can pack into your session, the more meaningful it will be. Don’t […]
If you are into family photography that shows your kids personalities and IF you love a good candid photo, then listen up. When your kids get excited about something or start playing with each other during a session (even if it’s not what I was anticipating doing at that moment), Let. Them. Play. These kids […]
Do you have a boy that isn’t excited about senior pictures? Why don’t you see if some cool, colorful walls, and city steps get him interested. These walls add so much life into these photos, and they are really easy to access (and close together) in Provo, UT. It’s a great option. I’ve found that […]
I was pretty excited when Chelsea, of Chelsea K Designs wanted to do her session down at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. There’s so many different ways to use light there and they are all so dang gorgeous. I brought my assistant, as usual, to use my reflector and I have a few thoughts about […]
Do you have a HS Senior and an 8 year old who needs baptism pictures? Why not combine the two and save a buck. Check out this combined session? And what do you think of this new spot?
Want to know what my biggest advice is for your family shoot? Don’t fight on the way there so you can all have fun together during your shoot. Family pictures are HIGH stress for Mom who has coordinated schedules, what to wear, and helped her kids get ready if they are young enough. Try not […]
Did you see I added my commercial portfolio to my website? I love shooting for brands, builders, designers and the like. Go check it out and tell your business owner friends in need of great photos, website and Instagram content. Just in case you aren’t convinced of the amazingness of this Orchard, here’s one more! This girl was a cross country runner for Lone Peak Highschool in Utah, and I had so much fun being her photographer. Loved both of her looks, I recommend doing one casual and one more dressy. Utah Senior […]
One orchard, two outfits and a senior. Guys this location is so dreamy! The Orchard blooms in mid-late April. @Hairandmakeupbycourtneysmith did her makeup and it really gave her a gorgeous glow. Add makeup to your session for just $60, it’s so worth it. You’ll have to book early, so Courtney can get you on her […]
I have a confession to make. I love taking extended family photos. Why is this a confession you might be thinking? Because taking photos of large groups is not trendy or cool in the photography world. Being super creative gets you noticed among other photographers, and don’t get me wrong, I love seeing really creative […]
Being a family photographer in Utah, I’ve done my fair share of extended families. It’s not a popular genre among photographers (cause they are looooots of work and there’s less time for creativity), but because I love the traditional family portrait, I love them! I’ve seen how a family portrait can bring a mom/grandma to […]
Hi there, I’m Lexi and I’m a Utah County Photographer and I want to photograph your hard-to-photograph children. That might sound weird, but it’s true. Have you ever tried a photo session with your toddler that ended in tantrums or melt-downs? You aren’t alone, but guess what, I don’t think that’s your fault or even […]
Summer and Thanksgiving/Christmas is when people plan family reunions, and I love extended family sessions when the whole fam is back together for a few days. I’ve had three inquiries in the last month for my extended family photography sessions so I thought I’d post about one of my favorite spots for a big group. […]
Orchards are hard to come by these days, this one is my favorite! I hope it’s there for years to come despite all the development going on around here in Utah County. I love this shoot, her outfits were super classic and didn’t distract from her beautiful self (plus the hair and makeup done by […]
How should you dress for an Extended Family Shoot? Here’s my last shoot of 2019, you can learn from their ways. I generally tell families several things which this family did wonderfully: Don’t match. For example, don’t put everyone in a white shirt. Be low contrast (I only say this for extended families). There are […]
Here’s a really cool spot for urban senior photography. There’s lots of different looks there and I felt like it really matched his style. I loved that he brought his guitar, I think it helped bring out his personality. The wedding and reception for this cute couple was at the beautiful Orangerie located at the Red Butte Gardens is SLC. I had lots of fun documenting it all…

Want updated family pictures on your wall? Want to have an album full of proof that your kids actually DO love each other? Ya, me too. I can make that happen for you. My fall schedule is live, let me know if you’d like one of these session dates. All shoots are 1-3 hours before […]
How can you get several different looks without wasting valuable shooting time and light? Use different jackets to change your look, then you don’t have to go back to the car to change. Three of her looks had the same base: white shirt and jeans. Try using the same white T-shirt for all your different […]
If you want to shoot at Saltair, you have to be committed. It might be muddy, you might get mosquito bites, and like this shoot, the storm could chase you back to your car.
I did two shoots here last year. It was fun to find a new spot and get a totally different look from where I’m used to shooting. I love this family, their kids keep me laughing.
My new favorite spot! I’m so excited about this one, I feel like I’ll be shooting here a lot!
If you are willing to brave the mud and bugs, you can have pictures like this. I think its totally worth it.

I got to photograph these adorable twins in there home not too long ago. Their bright blue eyes, and blonde hair are so adorable.
This spot is always a favorite location of mine in the spring. I love how this family didn’t match too much, and added lots of layers and texture to their ensamble.
The location is worth every minute of the drive. These are some of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken.
